Swordfish Rank Requirements

The Swordfish rank is your ticket to the Fetid Key. Unlike typical OSRS time trials, the Fetid Key requires hitting a very specific rank — not the easiest (Marlin) or the base completion. You must finish the course in 2 minutes and 3 seconds or less, and your Sailing level must be at least 55 (this requirement cannot be boosted, so your level needs to be at least 55 before you can even attempt the trial).

There are three ranks in total: Swordfish (unlocks the Fetid Key), Shark (rewards a Captured Wind Mote), and Marlin (best XP and a Ralph’s fabric roll). Achieving the faster ranks will net you more XP and unique rewards, but the Fetid Key is exclusively tied to the Swordfish rank.

Ship Upgrades & Gear Check

You’ll need a skiff (the smallest ship type) fitted with two mandatory upgrades to even survive the trial:

• Mithril Helm — Essential for navigating the strong rapids

• Inoculation Station — Provides immunity against Fetid Waters (hazardous pools that inflict disease and drastically slow your boat)

Crucially, you must dismiss any crewmates before starting the trial, as the Jubbly Jive cannot be attempted with crew present. Ros (who assists Gurtob) can help you open the Crew Management interface to dismiss them quickly.

How the Jubbly Jive Actually Works

The Jubbly Jive plays like a swamp-based obstacle course. Here’s what you need to know about the mechanics:

• Collect Lost Supplies (Crates) — These are scattered along the course and must be collected as part of the rank requirements.

• Gather Balloon Toads — You’ll navigate to a boat containing a Balloon Toad Pile; each toad is a resource you’ll use to lure birds.

• Lure Jubbly Birds — Throw toads at specific outcrops (indicated by colored flags) in the correct order to lure the birds toward the starting point where Gurtob is stationed. For the Swordfish rank, you only need to lure one Jubbly bird.

The trial interface keeps track of how many toads you have and which outcrop the Jubbly bird is currently on, so you can plan your route accordingly.

Navigating to Anglers’ Retreat

Once you have the key, you’ll need to sail to Anglers’ Retreat — an island located south of the Myths’ Guild in the Mythic Sea. You’ll need level 51 Sailing to moor at the island.

• Getting there — You can sail your own boat or build a rowboat on the island (which then allows you to travel to/from Corsair Cove).

• The stepping stones — On the north side of the island, you’ll find rocky outcrops that act as stepping stones. Crossing them requires level 52 Agility (the key itself does not grant any Agility boost, so you must meet this requirement).

• The chest — On the small island beyond the stepping stones sits the locked chest.

Set details: The Swamp cruiser’s outfit is cosmetic and untradeable. It currently cannot be stored in the player-owned house costume room.

Tips & Common Mistakes

• Adjust your Sailing plugin — Turn on Highlight Rapids and Highlight Trimable Sails to avoid slowdowns; also enable Highlight Crates to make supply collection much easier.

• Avoid swamp water — The green swamp water significantly slows your skiff. Always plan your route to stay on safer paths whenever possible.

• Use the correct pillar order — For Swordfish rank, the recommended order is Orange → Cyan → Purple → White. Hitting the pillars out of order wastes precious toads.

• Don’t forget your Inoculation Station — Entering Fetid Waters without it will slow your boat and inflict disease, adding up to 5 damage every few seconds.

• Pre-lure for Shark/Marlin — If you’re aiming for higher ranks, pre-baiting flags with extra toads helps ensure birds lure properly. For Swordfish, this is less critical but still good practice.
